How long does the course last?
The length of the course is mandated by the Ohio Revised Code. The course must be minimum of 10 hours of classroom instruction and 2 hours of live fire on the range. Our classes last at least 12.5 hours to ensure the standard is met.
What course materials do you provide?
We use the NRA Basic Pistol Course for our concealed carry classes. You will receive the NRA Basic Pistol text book, Firearms Safety Poster, Firearms Training brochure, a copy of the Ohio Attorney General's publication regarding concealed carry laws and an application form. We also can provide application forms for non-resident licenses for other states; unlike some trainers, we do not charge extra for these forms.
What if I do not own a handgun?
We can provide a gun for you to use in the class. We have many semi-automatic pistols in calibers ranging from .22 Long Rifle, to .45 ACP. We also have revolvers in calibers ranging from .22 Long Rifle to 45, with a wide assortment of sizes. If you do not own a handgun, we recommend you use one of ours before purchasing a gun, that way you are able to have a good idea of the type, caliber and size handgun that will suit you best before you go to the dealer. We do not charge for the use of our guns, however you will be required to pay for centerfire caliber ammunition; 22 Long Rifle ammo is free if you use our guns.
Do you use a public range?
We have our own outdoor range which allows us to conduct our classes without interference from other shooters and without the need to pay an additional range fee as other instructors require. We will make recommendations for public ranges and private clubs which you may join to continue your practice after getting your Concealed Handgun License. Also, we would be glad to sponsor you for membership in the Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen Association.
Are your courses approved or accepted by the state?
The State of Ohio does not approve any particular course, however the standards that are set out in the Ohio Revised Code specify what subject areas must be covered in a course in order to meet the standards. We use the NRA Basic Pistol Course, which provided the standards used in the Ohio Revised Code, thus our course meets the training standards. Our class certificates have been accepted by all of the sheriffs offices in Southwest Ohio and other parts of the state.
Do you give us time to go out to lunch?
There is no need to go out for lunch. We provide coffee, tea, hot chocolate, snacks, fruit, bottled water and lunch. We serve a hot lunch during the cooler months, usually pulled pork barbecue, chips and salads; we have other options for people who may have dietary restrictions. We usually serve deli sandwiches, chips and salads during the hot months of the year. We get good reviews on our food and we have the only lunch with a 6-Bullet rating in Morrow.
